This chapter discusses the services that you can configure to work with a Data ONTAP 10.0 system, including Network Information Service (NIS) domains, Kerberos realms, local UNIX® users, and local UNIX groups.

Services Concepts

You can configure the Data ONTAP 10.0 system to use the following services:

  • NIS domains—NIS domains can be configured with virtual servers to provide network information in a Data ONTAP 10.0 system.

  • Kerberos realms—If you want to use Kerberos authentication for client access, you must configure the Data ONTAP 10.0 system to use an existing Kerberos realm.

  • Local UNIX users—You can set up UNIX users on a virtual server to assist with Windows-to-UNIX and UNIX-to-Windows name mappings.

  • Local UNIX groups—You can set up local UNIX groups, also on a virtual server, in parallel with local UNIX users.
